VOX: The Art of Inner Monologue

Vox: The Art of the Inner Monologue

One night only — soprano Ibidunni Ojikutu, pianist Jay Rozendaal, and director Julia Benzinger present a bold, contemporary English adaptation of La voix humaine, the searing one-woman chamber opera by Francis Poulenc and French surrealist Jean Cocteau — a kindred spirit to the Pacific Northwest’s tradition of introspective, genre-defying art.

Vox invites you into the private unraveling of a brilliant woman as memory, identity, and lost love collide. This site-specific performance unfolds within the historic Lairmont Manor, enhancing the emotional intimacy and psychological tension of the piece.

Presented by Rising Waters Collective, this event offers a rare sneak peek at The Vox Project — a one-day, city-wide series of performances and installations happening October 11 across Seattle.

Intimate, immediate, and emotionally electrifying, this is opera like you’ve never seen it — no experience required.
